ABOUT ME & MY PRACTICE

I’m so glad you’re here! Let me tell you a little bit about me and my practice.

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Board-Certified, Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC) who has been practicing since 2011. Originally from Northwest Iowa, I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2005 with a dual degree in Studio Art and English.

After working in research for a few years, I moved to Norfolk, Virginia, to complete my Master’s of Science in Art Therapy and Counseling. I graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2011 and started working as an in-home therapist in North Carolina for a year. I then moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where I worked in an acute inpatient behavioral health setting until 2020. Missing the Midwest, I returned to Iowa and settled in the Des Moines area with my husband and two kids. In my free time, I enjoy reading, painting, cooking, running, practicing yoga and spending time with my friends and family.

I recognize that it takes a great deal of vulnerability and courage to embark on the therapeutic journey. My approach is trauma-informed and incorporates art therapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral, client-centered, solution-focused, and strengths-based models.

I find that art therapy is a helpful and unique way for clients to approach difficulties and express themselves. I also believe that clients don’t exist in a vacuum. I explore aspects of the various systems within which clients exist. I look at family, work, friends, and other relationships to help clients discover where changes might be effective. My goal as a therapist is to provide a creative and accepting space for clients to be truly seen and heard.

I am currently accepting new clients. If you’d like to discuss starting therapy with me, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m happy to answer any questions you have.
